Where's the Ferry

About Where's the Ferry

Where's the Ferry shows Washington State Ferries sailings, vessels and alerts on your phone, built first for riders who already know which crossing they take.

It's an unofficial app, not affiliated with WSDOT or Washington State Ferries. For anything that matters, like whether your sailing is running, check Washington State Ferries.

Appearance

Follows your device unless you choose here. Your choice is kept on this phone.

Where the data comes from

Schedules, vessel locations, drive-up space and alerts come from WSDOT's public ferry data. We fetch it ourselves, the live parts every 15 seconds, and serve you our own copy. Pages with live data say how long ago it was updated.

Estimated lateness is our own guess at how late a sailing will leave, worked out from when its vessel is due in and how long the vessel needs at the dock. It's always marked as an estimate, never as WSF's word.

Cameras are WSDOT's, though a few are run by others, such as a local internet provider or the City of Seattle.

Privacy

There are no accounts or ads. Cookies keep a few things on this phone: the crossings you've saved and the direction you last viewed each in, your appearance choice if you make one, and a security token that protects the site's forms. None of them leaves this site.

To see which pages and crossings riders look at, we count visits with Fathom Analytics. Fathom works without cookies and doesn't store personal data or IP addresses; Fathom's privacy policy has the details. If your browser sends Do Not Track, Fathom doesn't count you at all.

Like any website, our server logs each request, including your IP address, to keep the site running. Other sites get your requests too, and with them your IP address: Fathom's script loads from Fathom's servers, and camera images load straight from WSDOT, and for one camera the City of Seattle.
